What happened
Solumnar is a dying sentient star holding unrealised futures. The travellers confront a scale of loss that cannot be resolved simply by choosing the right alternative. MINO dies after the harmonic exposure, and Solumnar’s final vigil ends in the star’s death. Anika’s relief work and the local observer Ilan Voss’s custody of private records run alongside the cosmic losses, keeping help answerable to particular people.
Where the book leaves us
Corran and Raven attend a farewell and walk through the debris of what remains. A new protostar appears, but the story does not make it a resurrection that cancels the loss. Raven and Ilan end their relationship at his station, where his work continues. Anika remains aboard with her own relief commitments and her ongoing relationship with Corran. Raven’s love confession has consequences without resolving every uncertainty between her and Corran. They continue together, carrying grief into the future. This recap stops here and does not import developments from subsequent books.
