The unresolved mysteries register
Questions the published stories leave genuinely open—without answers borrowed from private plans.
Chapter notes · spoilers
One stitch, incomplete history
Corran directly recalls a pale knot left outside a dark cuff and the movement of hiding it. Isolde supplies the claim that this was a habit. A surrounding recollection of their romance and shared night remains vivid but unverified; no location, date, first name, cause of amnesia, prototype history or photograph identity is recovered. The recollection · The written distinction.
Book 5, Chapter IX — The Core of Concord
Concord alleges Lunareth was killed by a peer, but supplies no assailant or independent witness account. Its account of the prior Witness’s bodily and mental failure lacks corroboration; the child’s outcome and connection to the chair voice remain unknown. The drawing changes visibly, with no established mechanism. Concord’s statement that it is trying has not released the medical shipment.
VIII — False Harmony
What is the Lunareth representation, who authorised it and when did the practice begin? Its label and disappearance do not prove every delegate is synthetic or that Clause Null caused the change. The death notice supplies identity but no independently verified cause.
VII — Clause Null
Is the Corran named in the damaged proposal the present traveller? He cannot remember writing it. The chair’s voice, prisoner and mechanism remain unidentified. Concord’s response establishes a surviving prohibition, not proof of every claim about the old Witness or the recent death.
VI — A Violation in Silence
Who changed Article 7, who authorised the missing interval and what killed the Solari delegate remain unresolved. The life-pattern interruption is a station classification, not Corran’s diagnosis. Anna’s view may have been live or delayed. The apparent soothing response after her dream does not establish remorse.
V — The Living Law
Concord claims the previous Witness chose mercy and the treaty survived. What “we did not” means, who authorised the subsequent restrictions and what happened to those involved remain open. The reconstruction and case summaries share Concord’s provenance; the crew still needs independent testimony.
A missing word and a sealed gallery
The omission appears deliberate, but the crew has not heard the private plan. Concord validates against the first recitation rather than checking its origin. Anna’s robed figure, repaired plinth and old floorplan suggest connections without proving identity or death. The observer relay exposes troubling interventions but remains selected institutional evidence, not access to encrypted private messages.
The previous occupant and the first
Concord confirms termination of the previous occupant’s status but leaves life, identity and removal authority unresolved. Corran cannot establish whether his selection seeks contradiction or merely an external signature. Anna hears “I was the first” near a cloaked silhouette and finds SAY IT OUT LOUD on the floor; these observations do not authenticate a speaker or establish the safety of compliance.
Witness lost; Clause Null
The lost-witness amendment and associated administrative corrections suggest deliberate removal. They do not yet establish who was removed, whether every discrepancy concerns one person, or who altered the account. Anna’s dream, loose page and recollection of a whisper supply leads to test. The station’s repeated environmental responses do not by themselves authenticate a recovered person or message. The medical shipment remains held; the meaning and practical effect of the observer-review status remain unknown.
Who authorised the summons?
Orbitum Concordia possesses an approach signature and a record naming Corran, but the summons authority is suppressed from its reception record. Neither the match nor his fragmentary association with the station’s name proves a remembered visit. The source of the course deviation, the authority able to release the medical hold and the outcome of the coming summit remain unresolved. No link to The Continuum is established.
After the crown breaks
Anna’s account adds a coercive promise and a misleading doorway, but does not identify the latch operator or fully explain the false shape in her bed. The crowned likeness’s claims remain distinct from a verified alternate biography. The residual light enters Anna and the whispers diminish; no complete Ananke history is recovered.
The original stage mask was left behind. How a different, Carnavas-pattern mask reached Corran’s jacket remains unknown, as does the source of the refractor. The crew has escaped the immediate spectacle, but has no confirmed fate for Selin, his daughter, the boy in green or the acrobat. Their testimony, last coordinates and failed return view remain recorded. No reply from Miridell has arrived. Defeating the stage does not establish that every captive is free or that civic services survived intact.
The missing witness and the closed entrance
Who released Tempest’s latch? Did the outline on the camera record Anna accurately, and what produced the shape beneath her blanket after the recorded departure? The ship’s records have already proved vulnerable to manipulation. The call badge’s silence cannot establish an unpressured choice.
Who sent the older Anna likeness and the prism? A physical object and a repeatable opening effect do not verify its source or the claim that the Audience has never been seen. The gate’s faces supply neither names nor a count of victims. The Audience’s boasts about fire, stars and Corran remain claims, not established dates or a restored history. Anna is found, but remains in danger; the missing residents have not been rescued.
The signal that survived departure
Moving Tempest above Miridell’s clouds does not remove the reflective growths. Is the pattern carried by the travellers and their belongings, or still aimed at them? Timed returns and recorded pulses narrow the observations without establishing a psychic diagnosis. Anna’s additional recorded trace remains distinct from her single ordinary heartbeat.
The examiner in the library offers accusations, not a verified identity. No recovered first name, doctorate field, date of birth or future biography is supplied for Corran. The sealed chamber comes from a civic record; Core remains the crew’s working label for an unverified centre of the pattern. Returning towards it is a plan to investigate, not a completed rescue.
The watching image and the offered host
What made the House change shape, and how did it separate Corran and Anna? Its pictures of older or grander selves do not resolve anyone’s history. Corran’s copied face supplies no first name, doctorate field or date of birth. Those unknowns remain unknown.
The film depicts an eye and people disappearing, but its sequence and source are unverified. The receiver follows a repeated signal, not a map of individual minds. Carnavas calls the hungry presence the Audience and offers Anna a hosting role; neither his promise nor his fear proves what it can do. The boy, acrobat and Selin’s daughter remain missing. The fractured mirror has not yet established a way out.
What the carnival refuses to show
Where are the acrobat, the boy in the green coat and Selin’s daughter? Carnavas knows enough to threaten and entice, but his role remains unproved. Why do the wells turn varied laughter into the same eight-beat response, and who can refuse a system on which the city depends?
The core’s founders’ seal is described by a public plan, not inspected from inside. Anna has one ordinary physical heartbeat; instruments also record a delayed trace whose origin is unknown. Neither Corran’s missing past nor Anna’s experience of Ananke supplies a ready explanation. The saved route to Zero Point remains unanswered.
The word that does not identify its sender
Who arranged the room aboard Tempest, and why those objects? The photograph is undated; the coat resembles Ananke’s but does not prove Anna wore it. The sample’s earlier provenance and payer remain unknown. Anna’s remaining fittings still require suitably informed care.
The Return signal does not identify a sender. Its bearing resembles retained Loom information; the route note claims an earlier origin without proving that claim. Zero Point is reached, but the crew does not enter. Corran’s human fiftieth-century origin remains a surviving-record fact, and Asterune remains parallel Earth. Neither is converted into a recovered childhood, alien ancestry or proof that this place made him.
Partial district repairs do not account for every civilian consequence. Berlin’s missing people, the wounded soldier’s recovery, the tower operator and Professor Vaust’s whereabouts remain open. London records and a return setting preserve obligations beyond this book’s ending.
What the interruption does not settle
Ananke’s disappearance does not establish death, rescue or a complete transfer into Anna. The origin of the framed sample, the person who paid for its disposal and the exact connection between its images and Anna’s remaining fittings are not yet known. The younger councillor carries away questions and a folder; neither her cooperation nor the other members’ flight settles accountability.
The crew knows which relay they interrupted and which district branches were at risk. They have not checked every hospital, signal or household. Changed notices do not confirm the return of the Berlin missing, the recovery of the wounded soldier or the tower operator’s safety. Professor Vaust is absent from the comparison room, but his whereabouts remain open. Corran has one life and an incomplete memory; the stopped returns do not supply a new autobiography.
The return that will not settle
The navigation fault, repeated sound and matching rhythms suggest connections but do not yet identify the whole system. The crew has a bureau address and district circuit number, not access to Professor Vaust’s private apparatus or knowledge of the wafer. They cannot confirm all the lives Anna seems to remember. Professor Vaust’s chapter viewpoint reveals his attempted use of the older pattern; it does not grant that knowledge to the crew or establish his claims of inevitable victory.
An interrupted signature
Corran and a clerk see two outlines; Corran and Ava hear the older likeness speak. The observation exceeds Anna’s private impressions, but does not establish its mechanism, reliability or an inevitable later life. A second powered cabinet remains when the table receiver is disconnected. The unsigned agreement is an immediate outcome; no general restoration of history has been verified. Professor Vaust’s whereabouts, the missing Berlin residents and the wounded soldier’s recovery remain open.
Four images and a dated lead
Anna’s four images are neither verified futures nor evidence of private thoughts. Cal reports a second outline; Ava sees a blur and the first-aid attendant sees neither. The temple fittings remain relevant but their role is unproven. Corran’s copies, undeveloped film and the original files require outside corroboration. The private meeting near Versailles in 1918 is a lead, not proof of Professor Vaust’s arrival. The wounded soldier’s recovery and Berlin’s missing people remain unresolved.
Images ahead of the moment
Anna describes images with the conviction of memory, but their cause remains uncertain. The bus turns safely; intercepting a visible drop does not by itself prove prediction. The possible role of her remaining fittings or the crossing needs investigation. She cannot summon an image, read another person’s thoughts or certify a future. The London address remains a lead until checked. Berlin’s missing people and the wounded soldier’s recovery are still unresolved. Before the Storm.
What remains after the tower
Anna’s residual ticking and the weak pulse near her remaining fittings need investigation. They do not establish access to other minds, and no pre-existing Tempest medical baseline is available. The damaged departure recorder and a transit residual point towards London in 1939 without proving Professor Vaust’s present location. The tank child, stenographer, Lotte and grandmother, and the laboratory worker’s sister remain on Berlin’s search list, not a list of confirmed rescues. The tower operator’s escape route does not confirm her eventual safety. The soldier Cal shoots is alive under treatment; his recovery is not yet known. Memoryfire · The Quiet That Follows.
Witnesses still missing
The prototype’s refusal and destruction are witnessed in the laboratory; distant listeners receive only an incomplete audio record. Its earlier use of Anna’s name remains unexplained and does not make it the rescued girl. The technician who helps Corran remains inside with a sister whose situation is unknown. The tank child, second stenographer, Lotte and her grandmother are still unaccounted for. Anna’s safety on one roof resolves none of those obligations. Uncoded · The Silent Core.
Two uses of Anna
The rescued child gives her name to Cal. Separately, the laboratory prototype speaks the same name before Corran has learned the girl’s identity. This coincidence does not establish that they are one person. The source and scope of the retained recordings remain unresolved. The later broadcast has an observable audio route; its reach and the response of individual listeners are uncertain. The tank child, the stenographer, Lotte and her grandmother remain unaccounted for. The Resistance Will Be Transmitted · Ghost Signal.
The names spoken in Berlin
The child says Ava’s true name although no one in the demonstration has used it. The artificial trial body later says Corran’s name. These are separate observations, not proof that the two share an identity. The source of the prototype’s unattributed recordings remains unknown. Ava’s child and the stenographer who helped her remain unaccounted for; Cal’s rescued companion still needs care. ERROR preserves an unresolved result, not an explanation of a mind. Origin Draft · A Flaw in the Pattern.
What the Berlin opening establishes
Professor Vaust directs the local command project, but the source of the greeting to Corran and the extent of their prior contact remain unresolved. Lotte and her grandmother’s whereabouts are not established by the closed stall. Ava does not yet know the child’s name or a safe way to release him; Cal recognises a command interface, not its full medical effects. Neither report is yet in Corran’s possession. The copies of Professor Vaust’s plans and the dependencies beyond his own frame still require investigation. The three viewpoints.
After the final clause
Isolde leaves by a route whose destination the crew cannot verify. The photograph’s third person and provenance remain unresolved; competing fragments are not a recovered biography. The Berlin transmission matches a distributed Kharad command protocol, which could be imitated or stolen. Its operator, the source of the spoken greeting, and the relationship of the concealed relay format to Corran’s past are unknown. The Eye’s closure does not explain his general amnesia, recover Cal’s five crewmates or settle Shard’s fate. The ending.
Whose history does the prototype retain?
Corran recognises fragments of work on a wartime prototype, but the sequence of its disabling and later activity remains uncertain. Ava remembers its response when she was sixteen. Isolde receives contradictory visions of Lena’s fate and a courier resembling herself, which she refuses to adopt as fact. Lena’s confirmed connection is Ava’s account of her mother and inherited instrument. The prototype’s history does not yet explain Corran’s memory loss or Tempest’s rescue of him. The failed arrival.
Isolde and Corran recognise love and a painful departure while disputing what choices were available. The Eye’s edited scenes do not settle that account. Cal’s missing regret and Shard’s disappearance from the returning group remain unresolved. The competing accounts.

This register stops at the current public boundary. “Open” means the prose has not settled the question; it is not a hint that a private answer exists.
Where is Caldrex?
His counterclaim loses the privileged return it depended on, and he disappears. Corran and Ava find no path, body or confirmed destination. The collapse of the claim does not establish the end of the person.
What can Ava’s quiet thread do?
It waits, can be put down, responds once during departure and can be removed from her wrist. Those observations do not establish a voice, unlimited power or a predetermined future for its wearer.
What survived the Confluence?
The Eaters’ particular attacks are defeated, but the published ending does not demonstrate that every erased history or victim was restored.
Evidence note: Absence of a universal restoration scene is not proof of universal loss.
Where did Cilaron Thane go?
Thane collapses and disappears after the confrontation; the prose does not establish an ordinary biological death.
What is the full origin of the Spiral Accord?
In the opening, Corran’s interpretation of the trace as negotiation remains a hypothesis. The Accord-9 file, The Midsummer’s contradictory records and the gallery’s broken pane are clues whose shared cause has not yet been established. Cal’s five missing crewmates still require an account. Book 2, Chapter IV.
Its linguistic machinery and treaty logic are encountered, but the complete history of its makers is not supplied as a settled account. Virel’s belief that Corran helped create him is testimony, not proof recovered from Corran’s memory. Virel acknowledges earlier mistakes and distinguishes what he has never seen stopped from what cannot be stopped. Virel’s account.

How much of Corran’s ancient Asterunian memory is reliable?
The stories provide founders, visions and missing intervals, but later prose repeatedly treats recollection as evidence to test rather than an infallible archive.
What exactly became of MINO between loss and restoration?
MINO’s loss is a real event and a later backup returns through the watch hologram; full continuity of memory and embodiment is not exhaustively proved.
Who first designed the Kharon Spire’s deepest system?
The published adventure exposes CORMORANT and the industrial structure, while older responsibility remains distributed across records and institutions.
Can Parish Nine rebuild trust without another false comfort?
The system controlling the Returned is defeated, but the final chapter leaves the community with records, grief and the slower work of rebuilding.
What did the Memory House remember that no one asked it to release?
The Remanent is addressed and the House quiets, but the archive’s complete holdings remain intentionally unopened.
