What happened
In an earlier local period of Serath’s mortal life, his gallery turns trauma and counterfactual worlds into installations. Roxi joins the travellers at the Vault of Kheren Vorr. The exhibition culminates in WITHOUT HIM, an attempted erasure of Corran within the gallery’s connected records and machinery.
Where the book leaves us
Corran’s pencil declaration helps the crew resist the gallery while their intervention breaks its physical control. The crew escape while Serath vanishes into shadow; his final fate is not established as death. The pencil remains as a modest object after an extravagant assault. Roxi continues with Corran, Raven, Mara and the earlier MINO backup into the next adventure. Mara’s independent preservation work accompanies her developing relationship with Corran. Raven’s local relationship with Ilan ends with his own work keeping him ashore; her affection for Elin continues through letters. A dedicated day gives Corran and Raven room to speak candidly about desire and unfinished feelings. After recovery, Corran and Roxi begin a mutually chosen sexual relationship without promising romantic love.
