The Plastic Parish
A welcoming community offers a troubling answer to grief.
Full Version
The opening situation
Parish Nine, a former plastics reclamation station, receives the travellers with unsettling cleanliness and a promise of belonging. Corran, Raven and Yara encounter rituals that touch the most vulnerable parts of community life. The opening follows Yara’s chosen adult relationship with Corran, alongside his acknowledged love for Raven. The investigation distinguishes convincing recollections from proof of identity, and engineered signal channels from ordinary materials. Familiar acts of comfort become troubling when people lose the ability to refuse.
Who travels here
Corran, Raven, MINO and Yara; the people of Parish Nine.
A question to carry into the story
Notice who defines a successful return and who can refuse the invitation. Comfort becomes dangerous when it requires surrendering judgement.
